How to use draft cards in Mail for iOS 8

iOS 8 brings a lot of updates to the built-in Mail app on both iPhone and iPad. One of the best new features is easily the way you can now handle draft emails. Prior to iOS 8, if you started composing email and needed something from your inbox or couldn't complete the message, you'd be forced to put it in the drafts folder, which required several taps to get back to. Now with draft cards, you can easily access your entire mailbox and your drafts in just a swipe and a tap.

How to draft emails in the new Mail app for iPhone and iPad in iOS 8

  1. Launch the Mail app on your iPhone or iPad running iOS or higher.
  2. Compose a new email or respond to an existing one as you normally would.
  3. In order to save your message as a draft, simply swipe down from the top of the screen to return to your inbox.
  4. Your draft card hovers at the bottom of the screen. When you're ready to return to it, tap on it.

That's it! No longer do you have to choose between deleting or saving a message to drafts. iOS can now remember all your composed emails that haven't been sent. If you have more than one draft saved in the Mail app, iOS will display them as a stack of cards, similar to how Safari displays web page cards. Just tap the one you want and continue composing right where you left off. If you ever want to delete a draft card, just tap on the delete icon in the upper left hand corner of the draft card.

Give the new draft cards feature a try and let me know what you think of it in the comments! Is it something you'll use? Can it sway you away from a third party email app you're already using?
