Apple has posted a new video that tries to get the word out on their recent efforts to become more environmentally conscious in its manufacturing and power efforts.
The video shows how Apple is trying to create products that use less energy, claiming that on average, its hardware products use 59% less power than they did 10 years ago.
It also shows how it is building a solar-based plant in China to power its buildings, and using hydro-power to run a data center in Oregon. Finally, the video showed how packaging for its products use 68% recycles paper and outlined its efforts to help preseve forestland, as it announced it would do last week with forests in North Carolina and Maine.
The company has also launched a new page on its website devoted to its environmental efforts, including how they leave out certain materials in their devices to cut down on toxins. Apple says:
Many substances commonly used in the electronics industry can be harmful to people or the planet. So we design our products with cleaner, safer materials to reduce and eliminate these toxins. And we hold our suppliers accountable — we conduct factory audits, test components with independent laboratories, and verify the results in our own lab. It's our mission to make sure anyone who assembles, uses, and recycles an Apple product can do so safely.
