After failing to lock down a lead actor, Aaron Sorkin's upcoming Steve Jobs biopic may now be changing studios. Deadline reported that the movie is heading to Universal from Sony Pictures, with a deal set to finalize as early as Thursday evening. According to Deadline's Mike Fleming Jr:
I'm hearing very strongly that Universal is indeed locking down the Jobs project and essentially giving it a green light. This should be closed by tomorrow latest. That means the project shouldn't lose any momentum despite the studio move. Will provide more details when I get them.
Reasons for Sony's decision to put the film in turnaround are not yet clear, with the studio failing to provide an official comment on the matter. The screenplay for the biopic is based on Walter Isaacson's biography of Steve Jobs, and will be directed by Danny Boyle. Christian Bale was originally cast to be the lead, but the actor reportedly pulled out after stating that he was unsure he was a right fit for the role. Michael Fassbender is said to be the latest actor being considered to play Jobs.
