Unread for iPad relaunches as free app by Castro developer Supertop

RSS reader Unread for iPad has relaunched under app developer Supertop, known for the Castro podcast player. Supertop purchased Unread from original developer Jared Sinclair earlier this year. Unread is now free to download, with in-app purchases to unlock features.

Unread lets you add accounts from a number of different RSS services, including Feed Wrangler, Feedbin, and Newsblur. You can read articles with a number of different themes, including multiple light and dark themes.

The free version of Unread is fairly restricted. You can read three articles per day, and you have access to one theme. The in-app purchase starts at $3.99, but you also have the option to pay more with either a $4.99 or $12.99 tier. When purchasing at $3.99 or $4.99, you'll also have the option of adding a $1, $2, or $4 tip. All tiers have access to unlimited articles and all seven themes. There doesn't seem to be any difference between the levels, aside from the warm feeling you might experience for supporting an indie developer. Existing Unread for iPad users with the previous app will not need to pay to unlock features.

Unread for iPad is a new app and is also separate from the most recent version of Unread for iPhone. The app is rolling out now from the App Store.
