Apple is now letting anyone create a free Apple ID on iCloud.com and use Pages, Keynote, and Numbers for free.
This comes just two weeks after the initiative was first rolled out in beta. It lets anyone — Apple device owner or not — create an Apple ID and get 1GB of free iCloud Drive storage that they can use to store documents created by the iWork for iCloud web apps.
Apple IDs are created and verified on iCloud.com, and once that's done, the web-only versions of Apple's document, presentation, and spreadsheet apps — Pages, Keynote, and Numbers — become available, along with the 1GB of free storage.
Web-only access to iCloud is supported not only in Apple's own Safari browser, but Chrome, Firefox, and Internet Explorer as well.
To access the full features of iCloud, including Mail, Calendar, Contacts, and get 5GB of free storage, you'll still need to sign up on an iPhone, iPad, or Mac.
Either way, if Google and Microsoft's online office apps never appealed to, it's a great way to test out Apple's.
